Dear Member of the Jean Monnet Community,
In 1989, the Jean Monnet programme was launched to support academic research on European integration in its Member States. Thirty years on, the programme continues to fund teaching and research on EU policies and fosters dialogue between academics, decision makers and civil society actors around the world.
The 30th anniversary of the Jean Monnet Actions in 2019 provides an opportunity to take stock of achievements but also to look into the future. The celebration of its 30th anniversary is best held in the context of a series of decentralised events in EU Member States, but also outside of the Union, initiated and organised by universities, academics who have participated in the programme using the 30th anniversary as an opportunity to reflect on the present and the future of European integration.
This requires the active participation of the global Jean Monnet Community. As a member of this Community, we encourage you to take initiative and organise such events under the thematic umbrella ‘Jean Monnet – 30 years of Excellence in European Studies’. We have created a facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/JeanMonnet30/?source_id=630809920303095 that will serve as a repository and information exchange hub for all events. On this group all participants and organisers of events will be able to exchange views and information. We encourage you to make this page known to students of EU studies and other interested stakeholders for better dissemination.
The European Commission is not in the position to provide specific financial support to these activities but will promote them. You will find attached a visual identity in different formats that you can use. We kindly request you to submit your ideas through the dedicated Survey of the 30th anniversary https://ec.europa.eu/eusurvey/runner/d7854cf5-7e7e-0bff-63c6-9f42f1fdbac0 . The Survey will allow us to get back to you with communication material (a digital toolkit containing a brochure, a leaflet and adaptable posters).
Sincerely yours,
The Jean Monnet Team of DG EAC
