On 8 and 9 June 2025, the annual conference of the European Union Association Asia Pacific (EUSAAP) has been successfully organised in collaboration with the EUSA Macau, University of Macau (UM) and the Institute of European Studies of Macau (IEEM). The conference titled “The EU, its Policies and Relations in Times of Transition” brought together over 70 papers from Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand and beyond. The topics considered the rising geopolitical tensions, the emergence of strong leaders in authoritarian regimes, an overall decline in democratic governance, and the growth of populist influences as well as environmental and sustainability in the EU and Asia, as well as culture and education.
It was a great opportunity to connect with academic colleagues working in the area of European Studies across Asia-Pacific. We have also commemorated the sad passing of one of the gurus of European Studies in Japan, Prof. Toshiro Tanaka.
Please, save the date for the upcoming EUSAAP conference in 2026 which will be held on Monday and Tuesday, 1+2 June at Hitotsubashi Kodo University, Tokyo, Japan. The call for abstracts in expected later this year.
