ESAANZ Essay Prize Competition 2024 winners

ESAANZ is proud to announce the ESAANZ essay competition winners for 2024 for the best undergraduate and postgraduate essay in both Australia and New Zealand.

Australia winners

The co-winner of the ESAANZ Essay Prize competition in the undergraduate student category:

  • Alexander Buchen, University of New South Wales essay titled: L’Affaire Dreyfus: looking beyond accusatory histories.
  • Charlotte Gadea, The University of Melbourne, essay titled: Spotlighting Eurovision as a political stage: Exploring how Turkey and Ukraine use the ESC to further their political agendas.

The winner of the ESAANZ Essay Prize competition in the postgraduate student category:

  • Alge White, the University of Melbourne essay titled: Europeanisation in migrant integration policies and practices based on the study trip to Belgium and Poland.

New Zealand winners

The winner of the ESAANZ Essay Prize competition in the undergraduate student category:

  • Emma Hartshaw, University of Canterbury essay titled: European Union Commitments and Policies Towards Indigenous People’s Human Rights- A Case Study of the Sámi people and the EU’s Critical Raw Materials Act.

The winner of the ESAANZ Essay Prize competition in the postgraduate student category:

  • Sophia King, University of Otago essay titled: Genocide in the Lachin Corridor: An investigation into the Frameworks and Conditions of Atrocity Crimes.

All winners were awarded book voucher prizes and all the winning essays have been accepted for publication in the upcoming Australia New Zealand Journal of Education Studies issue.
